New edutainment product for Muslim children, AbdullahKidShow, produced by Belal Khan from Leechon Films and Shirien Elamawy from Minbar Media, New Jersey, was introduced online recently. The main star is Abdullah, the bearded hand puppet.

He introduces himself at the website:

Asalaamu Alaikum!

My name is Abdullah and I’m a puppet. I’m a Muslim and I pray five times a day. I’m also an actor in my very own Islamic kids’ show, coming soon to DVD. I  like to play video games, read books, play out side and chase my cat cutie around the house when I’m bored.

The pilot episode is titled “Mercy Mission”. In the opening, Abdullah is playing Pac-Man. Later on, on his mission to find his lost cat, he calls Shaykh Jesus, meets a young girl, a tajweed teacher and two guys working for charity. He learns a little bit of Arabic (alif like Allah, alif like ummmm), and basic tenets of Islam. The video uses no musical instruments, only nasheeds (i.e. Islamic religious songs traditionally performed without musical instruments) are included.
