During his 23 minutes long in-studio appearance on Al Jazeera Arabic on 21 February, the prominent Muslim cleric Yusuf al-Qaradawi issued a fatwa to kill the Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi, saying that "any Libyan soldier or officer who has the opportunity to shoot and kill Gaddafi should do so". He commented on the current situation in Libya and criticized the use of air strikes against citizens protesting the regime, adding that "even Israelis didn't do anything like this" in Gaza. In the end he prayed, and asked all Muslims and non-Muslims to pray, for the Libyan people.
