Call for Papers: 1st CSS Postgraduate Conference on Syria
The Centre for Syrian Studies (CSS), based in St. Andrews/ Scotland, invites proposals for its First Postgraduate Conference on Syria on 1st/2nd September 2011.
The conference theme "Syria in the face of a changing world" is meant to attract postgraduate researchers and young scholars from a broad range of disciplines. Original research based on empirical data and/or contributions by Syrian scholars is especially welcome. Papers may cover a variety of topics and are not confined to the following
suggestions:
· Foreign policy and international relations
· Political economy, domestic politics and decision-making
· Societal issues including religion, urban-rural relations, gender, etc.
Prof. Raymond Hinnebusch, head of CSS, and other eminent researchers will be present to chair the discussions and provide feedback. Outstanding contributions will be considered for publication in the St. Andrews Papers on Contemporary Syria.
Accommodation and meals will be provided by the host; travel costs unfortunately cannot be granted.
Please email an abstract of max. 350 words and a brief CV until 15th May 2011 to Tina Zintl (mjz3@st-andrews.ac.uk). Successful applicants will be notified by 1st June 2011. Paper contributors will be expected to provide full paper drafts one month prior to the conference.
