The workshop is organized by the British Council in Egypt, Citizen Academia Network (University of Kent, UK) and the Forum for the Study of Popular Culture (FSPC). It seeks to tackle a variety of key issues related to the new social actors who are emerging, not only in Egypt but in the Arab region and even globally to fight for their long-confiscated right to representation against authoritarian regimes. In this light, the workshop seeks to highlight key theoretical interventions in the study of cultural and political geographies and examine the role of community initiatives and popular cultural practices in this battle, while also strengthening networks of researchers into the field and civil actors.
