Speaking the Unspeakable: Personal blogs in Egypt

Blogs are being used to explore if not challenge social values by Egypt’s global middle class. The medium has the potential for the development of community sensibility that is built from the ground up, outside the family and the state, which would be hard to sustain elsewhere. Egypt’s emerging global class is using blogs to imagine, if not create online, a less patriarchal society. The question remains whether this online conversation has transformative power in the real world. Looking for an answer to this question the article introduces and analyzes a selection of personal blogs of young people in present Egypt.
