Gendered Blueprints: Transnational Masculinities in Muslim Televangelist Cultures

Gendered Blueprints: Transnational Masculinities in Muslim Televangelist Cultures

This chapter is an attempt to render our perceptions of Muslim masculinities more complex and to move them beyondour preoccupation with security and religious extremism. It does so by examining what author calls transnational Muslim masculinity and tracing its cultural reproduction through specific media narratives on satellite Islamic television. It demonstrates ho Muslim televangelists draw on historical memory, scriptual texts and cultural experiences to generate new discursive sites around the various rolles of men in society.
